Clarksville Connected Utilities is now accepting applications through May 25th for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Lab Technician/Operator.

The Wastewater Treatment Plant Lab Technician/Operator will need to have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel programs; Record keeping abilities and basic mathematics; Physical plant characteristics, seasonal changes in treatment system operation and available options in process operations; steps to be taken to effectively communicate all requirements (and safety hazards) to operations staff; the Clean Water Act (and amendments) and applicable EPA and ADEQ regulations; safety procedures surrounding the handling of reagents, chemicals and laboratory glassware; operating principles of analytical instrumentation spectrophotometers, pH meters, DO meters, etc.; EPA laboratory certification procedures and required records; and capability of evaluating the analytical data from procedures using such instrumentation.

Ability to execute calculations accurately; recognize treatment process efficiency or problems by observation of physical properties and/or chemical examination; operate appropriate safety equipment; recognize health and safety hazard connected with plant operations and maintenance; set up and maintain EPA laboratory certification including an acceptable QA/QC program.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in science or an applicable field or two years’ experience in full-time laboratory experience. Other combinations of experience and education which provide the knowledge and skills required to perform the job may be considered. Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate, Class 2, and Six (6) months experience performing operations and maintenance of a Wastewater Treatment Plant

RESPONSIBILITY: Internal- Interaction with Supervisor and peers to receive general work assignments, address administrative issues and review results; CCU Water Operations and Maintenance Personnel must coordinate assignment, discuss and resolve technical issues and work with other CCU personnel as required. Take initiative under the proper guidelines and when appropriate to solve problems as they arise. 

External- Interaction with general public to respond to questions on wastewater quality, treatment process impacts of water quality, pressure and related matters. Also, communication with regulatory agencies to discuss reporting and water quality issues; consultants and vendors as necessary to coordinate projects and purchase supplies; emergency service personnel as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work in all weather conditions, perform yard work, sweep plant areas and perform general housekeeping duties. Be able to lift and carry heavy items (up to 50 pounds) such as chemicals and equipment when necessary. And all other duties that are necessary.
